Summary
App Blocker blocks apps and websites you pick, on a schedule you set. Your block lists, schedules, and PIN stay on your device. The app also sends usage events, purchase information, crash reports, and install attribution data to outside services, and it asks for permission to track. You can decline tracking and the app works the same.
What stays on your device
These never leave your iPhone through our code:
- The apps and websites you choose to block. iOS gives the app coded tokens, not app names.
- Your schedules and focus sessions.
- Your 4 or 6 digit PIN.
- Your Sign in with Apple ID, and your Apple email if you share it, used only for "Forgot code?" recovery. It is stored in your device Keychain. We do not receive it.
- A debug log you can view under Settings, Logs.
The random user ID
When you first open the app, it creates a random ID. It is not your name, email, or Apple ID. The app attaches this ID to the events and purchase records it sends to Amplitude and Qonversion. Because events are tied to this ID, we treat them as linked to you.
What the app sends, and to whom
Amplitude. Product analytics. Gets the random ID, session events, and in-app events such as onboarding steps, screens opened, schedules created, paywall views, trials, and purchases (with plan and app version).
AppsFlyer. Install and session attribution and ad measurement, which means knowing which ad or source led to an install. It starts after the tracking prompt. Gets install and session data, device and network data such as IP address, the vendor ID (IDFV), and the advertising ID (IDFA) only if you allow tracking.
Facebook SDK (Meta). Ad attribution. The app calls it for three events: onboarding opened, onboarding finished, and block created. We have not confirmed whether the SDK actually sends these events, so assume it may send them, along with device data the SDK collects on its own.
Google Firebase.
- Crashlytics: crash reports and diagnostics.
- Remote Config: loads settings such as paywall and notification text, which uses a Firebase installation ID.
- Analytics: automatic usage events and an app instance ID. If you allow tracking, it can also read your advertising ID (IDFA).
- Messaging: if you allow notifications, your device's push notification token can be sent to Firebase. The app does not send push notifications from a server; its reminders are scheduled on your device.
Qonversion. Subscriptions. Gets the random ID, your purchase history and App Store receipts to confirm and restore your subscription, and Apple Search Ads attribution.
Apple. Processes payments through the App Store. We do not see your card details.
Tracking and how to turn it off
The app shows Apple's tracking prompt. If you tap "Allow," AppsFlyer and Firebase Analytics can read your advertising ID, and AppsFlyer uses it to measure ads. If you tap "Ask App Not to Track," the advertising ID is not shared. No feature depends on your answer.
To change it later, go to Settings, Privacy & Security, Tracking, and turn off App Blocker.
Declining tracking does not stop analytics tied to the random ID, crash reports, or purchase records. To stop all of it, delete the app, and email us to delete what the services already hold.
Permissions the app asks for
Screen Time (Family Controls), to block apps and sites. Notifications, for reminders. Tracking, as described above. The app does not use your camera, location, contacts, photos, Health data, or Face ID.
Children and parental control
App Blocker can be set up on a child's device with a parent PIN. It is not made for children to use on their own and is not in the Kids category.
Be aware that the services above run on any device where the app is installed, including a child's. The app does not ask for a child's name, email, or age, but it does send the random ID and usage events from that device. If you set it up for a child, we recommend tapping "Ask App Not to Track" on the child's device. To have data from a child's device deleted, email info@salixlabs.com.
How long data is kept
On-device data stays until you delete the app. Some Keychain items, such as the random ID, can remain after deleting and reinstalling; that is how iOS handles the Keychain.
Data sent to Amplitude, AppsFlyer, Firebase, Qonversion, and Meta is kept according to each company's own retention settings and policies. We have not set shorter periods, and we do not yet have a confirmed retention period for each one. When we do, we will list them here. Until then, you can ask us to delete your data at any time (see below). Each company's privacy policy:
- Amplitude: https://amplitude.com/privacy
- AppsFlyer: https://www.appsflyer.com/legal/privacy-policy/
- Google Firebase: https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy
- Qonversion: https://qonversion.io/privacy-policy
- Meta: https://www.facebook.com/privacy/policy/
How to delete your data
- Delete the app to remove data on your device.
- Email info@salixlabs.com and ask us to delete data held by the services above. The app does not show your random ID on its main screens, so send whatever of the following you can:
- Your app ID from Settings, Logs. Look for a line that starts with "setUser -> id=" and copy the ID after it.
- If you subscribed, your Apple order ID or receipt.
- The approximate date you installed the app, your iPhone model, and the app version.
We will use these to find and delete your records with each service. Without the app ID, we may not be able to match every record at every service, and we will tell you what we could and could not delete.
- To cancel a subscription, use your Apple ID subscription settings. Deleting the app does not cancel it.
TestFlight testers
An earlier test version of the app, shared only through TestFlight, offered PIN recovery by email. Emails entered there are held in a legacy database we run with Supabase, a hosting provider, and that database is being deleted. The current and App Store versions do not use it. If you tested that version and want your email deleted sooner, write to info@salixlabs.com.
